International Women’s Day is on March 8th 2023. It recognises the achievements of women around the world and recognises gender inequality.

This year there’s a host of brilliant events happening in London, from supper clubs, to festivals. So get together with your favourite women and prepare to celebrate.

Women of the World Festival (WOW)

10-12 March | Southbank Centre (header image)

WOW is the world’s biggest and most comprehensive festival celebrating women, girls and non-binary people. Discussion, debate and performance include Emma Carroll and Lauren Child presenting The Little Match Girl Strikes Back.

Plates Shared Supper Club

8 March | Wahaca Shoreditch from 6pm onwards

Wahaca founder Thomasina Meirs is joined by BBC Radio 4’s Leyla Kazim and The Great British Bake Off finalist Crystelle Pereia for a supper club to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day. The trio will be cooking and hosting – serving a five course tasting menu. Plates include five hour grass-fed short rib with Tehuano sauce and toasted almonds; and orange and cardomom doughnuts with dulce de leche and chocolate tequila sauce. There is also a vegetarian menu. Tickets are £60 and include a welcome drink and a celebratory tequila. All profits from the evening will be donated to Practical Action, a charity focused on tackling gender equality and poverty in the developing world.

International Women’s Day at Seed Library

9 March | Seed Library Shoreditch

Sarah Barardi from Hendrick’s Gin and Nicole Sykes of Maker’s Mark are joined by other top female talents across the industry to raise money for The Girls’ Network. The all-star girl bartending team have created an exclusive menu that will be available for one night only.

Headstrong: Women and Empowerment

Until 23 April | Centre for British Photography

One of the inaugural shows at the new British Centre of Photography, Headstrong: Women and Empowerment is dedicated to women artists and photographers based in the UK. The exhibition has been brought together with the help of Fast Forward, a research project that promotes women and non-binary people in photography. Playful and often surprising, it looks at women who are challenging the patriarchy, embracing diversities and living their everyday lives.

Dear Black Women & Girls’ Festival

11 March | NOVOTEL West London

Highlighting the experiences and needs of everyday Black women and girls, this event celebrates Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. The one-day festival will feature panel talks, seminars, business and wellness events, all designed to celebrate the historical and ongoing contributions of Black women.
