Every month the founder of Anouska Georgia London will bring you the latest fashion news from the high street and independent brands, with the odd twist thrown in too
Hello and welcome to my first style edit for Absolutely West Essex! So many fashion designers have extended their signature style to homeware over the years, and last month saw the iconic Diane Von Furstenberg team with high street favourite H&M to launch the most stunning homeware collection. Featuring some of her signature prints over vases, cushions, candles and so much more, it’s a collection worth investing in to achieve that designer look without the price tag.
With alfresco dining firmly back on the agenda, it’s time to re-think our wardrobes and say goodbye to lockdown leggings, and say hello to flowing dresses, wide leg trousers, statement blouses and even – dare I say it – heels. Don’t worry though, the high street has been working hard behind the scenes during the pandemic and its stores have re-opened with an explosion of brunching and dinner date suitable attire to suit every style and budget.
Floral prints make its annual return, but this year they reappear in the delicate form of ‘Meadow’ print. H&M have fully embraced this, their in-house print designers have been busy hand-painting delicate daisies and dahlias in watercolour to feature on organic cotton and linens in a whole array of styles, from hats to flowing dresses, blouses and skirts. It’s definitely worth taking a look, and priced from £9.99 it’s budget friendly too.
Zara as always has launched a fabulous SS21 couture detailed collection at high street prices. This season they have run with bold block colour and geometric prints, which flows through from shoes to dresses and smart tailored suits, and there are lots of brightly coloured shoes and bags to accessorise with too. If you need an outfit for a wedding or garden party, you will be spoilt for choice at Zara right now.
Broderie Anglaise will never go away! This truly English embroidery technique first featured in fashion in the 19th century and has dominated summer style ever since. It’s delicate and oh so pretty appearance can be seen this season across all collections from designer to high street – some of my favourite pieces are from La Redoute and Asos, both of which have stunning blouses featuring this fabric. Team these with wide leg jeans for a classic 70s look.
Another wardrobe staple which is back with new styling details is the white flowing dress. We should all have one of these in our wardrobes and the more you can spend on one of these the better as it will see you through many years to come. I’ve chosen this as one of this month’s ‘must haves’: the key to a good one is a good breathable fabric, lining and classic timeless detailing.
