The beauty trends we forsee for the autumn months
Words Catherine Hales
The “Au Naturel”
As seen on the majority of the AW16 runways, the ‘no makeup’ look has been a major trend this summer and shows no sign of stopping for autumn. To create this look pair a light liquid foundation with colour correcting concealer under the eyes and some translucent powder to combat shine. Finish it off with a little peachy cream blush and a slick of tinted lip balm.
The extra mile: Use eyebrow pencil to add a dusting of freckles for an even fresher faced look.

The “All Eyes”
The smoky eye is nothing new but you can update this classic look by paring it back and adding in nude tones and even some whites and pale greys. Line your upper lid with dark grey or black eye pencil then use a matte beige shadow as a base on the lid. Next sweep on a layer of dove grey cream shadow along the lash line. Add a little under the bottom lashes, too then, moving slightly further up the lid add in the green or brown. Dab a touch of highlighter in the corners and apply a few layers of mascara and you’re set.
The extra mile: Use some of the darker grey shadow in the crease of your eyelid for a deep, hooded look.

The “Glitterati”
Anyone who has been paying any attention can tell you that glitter has been everywhere this summer (seriously, we can’t get it out of our favourite mohair jumper) and the trend shows no sign of fading away this September. For this look we abandon any attempts at subtlety; use liquid eyeliner to trace a thin line along your lash line ending in a tapered cat-eye flick. Dab some vaseline and highlighter under the flick and then carefully apply the glitter.
The extra mile: For festivals or parties, try the Instagram-famous glitter parting.
The face glitter
Topshop, Glitter Pot, £5
The adhesive
Vaseline, Petroleum Jelly, £1.95
The highlighter
Benefit, High Beam, £19.50

The “Lip Service”
Like the smokey eye, a bold lip is nothing new but this season we’re steering away from bright reds and delving into the berry family, with moody maroons and intense purples. For this look, use a little concealer and highlighter to brighten the area around your lips. Apply a lip primer for longevity then use a dark lip liner to trace your cupid’s bow then line the rest of your lips. Finish by filling in with your chosen lipstick using a lip brush then blot with tissue paper.
The extra mile: Use a lip exfoliator beforehand for a truly flawless pout.
