Chinese New Year is on 12 February, and there’s no better way to mark the occasion than to order some tasty Chinese takeout. From fine dining restaurants to local gastropubs, here are the best places in London that you should order from to bring in the Year of the Ox.

It’s no surprise that top Chinese restaurant Hakkasan is getting in on the celebrations, and throughout the month of February you’ll be able to enjoy Hakkasan at home. Focussing on ‘Peace, Love and Sharing’ expect a sharing menu that consists of traditional dishes, all chosen to bring good luck and prosperity, alongside a special dessert, the propitious Mandarin. Their Wishing Tree tradition will also go digital for the first time ever – guests can submit their wishes on social media and one lucky person will have their wish granted each week.
The Red Lion & Sun
This gastro pub in Highgate attracts the cool kids of north London (hello, Kate Moss) and they need no excuse for a good celebration. The Red Lion & Sun are marking the Year of the Ox by offering classic dishes like Char Siu pork, wonton soup, chicken fried rice, and duck pancakes. Every order will come with fortune cookies and a red envelope with a few lucky customers receiving a £60 gift voucher inside. Murger Han
Specialising in dishes from the region surrounding Xi’an, Murger Han is celebrating Chinese New Year 2021 with three traditional foodie picks. Try the ‘Tradition: Lucky Number 6’ option and for £6 you can choose from 25 noodle dishes including their famous Biang Biang noodles, and options for vegans and vegetarians too. The promotion is running from Friday 5 February until Sunday 21 February, with a London-wide delivery service.
Yauatcha
Chinese dim sum teahouse Yauatcha is marking the new year with a dedicated set delivery menu available across London for the month of February. At £68 per person, there’s delicacies such as the Hao yun lucky dim sum selection and their new Oxtail puff. Delivery is available across London via Yauatcha at Home, with a multi-drop option available so you can enjoy a feast at exactly the same time as friends and family. For those outside of London, you can join in the fun as they offer UK-wide delivery of sweet patisserie treats, including the Pineapple Pastries, a sharp and fruity petit gateau that feature an ox design on top.
Marks and Spencer
The Chinese offering from M&S is surprisingly good and their ultimate feast box is perfect for those who want to cook at home. The limited-edition Year of the Ox Box includes tender beef in black bean sauce, crispy chilli beef, Shanghai noodles, egg-fried rice and vegetable spring rolls. They’re also offering bite-size dim sum delights; all 18-pieces are handmade in Vietnam using locally grown vegetables, authentic seasonings, and juicy Vietnamese tiger prawns.
