Northern Ballet is one of the UK’s leading classical ballet companies. They continue to push the boundaries of storytelling with their innovative production of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. The company is renowned for combining classical technique with moving narrative, and this performance is no exception.
Divided by a barbed wire fence, Bruno doesn’t understand anything about where Shmuel lives, or who he is. To him, he’s just a new friend – a boy wearing a pair of striped pyjamas. As this unlikely friendship blossoms against the backdrop of the unthinkable events of World War II, Bruno’s childlike curiosity leads this poignant story to a devastating conclusion.Northern Ballet will be presenting this heartbreaking story through dance for the very first time. Choreographed by Daniel de Andrade, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas debuts in London this summer from the 6th – 17th June. The production marks the first time John Boyne’s heartbreaking story is told through dance. It will see Northern Ballet adapt their most contemporary work to date.The performance expertly blends classical technique with world-class storytelling to present an exciting interpretations of this challenging text. The piece will be accompanied by live music from the Northern Ballet Sinfonia. It guarantees a memorable night out and a rare chance to catch one of the most inventive and ambitious ballet companies in the UK.
