We see you, and we hear you. There’s nothing quite like trying a new dish and having it blow your mind, and we can all remember those amazing meals out that have made us say, “Wow”. We’re here to celebrate those moments and shine a spotlight on Hertfordshire’s amazing food scene. Here are some spots you’ll be adding to your foodie bucket list in no time.
1. Lussmanns
If there’s one thing that the people of Herts know how to do, it’s sustainability. Take for instance, the team at Lussmanns, who wear their planet-conscious dining as a badge of honour. This locals’ favourite will have your mouth watering with just one look at its menu – aubergine linguine, harissa spiced cauliflower, rhubarb pavlova… need we say more? 2. Puddingstone Distillery
Home of the Campfire Gin, Puddingstone Distillery should be on every botanical lover’s must-visit list in Herts this year. Open every Friday and Saturday, with select tours on Thursday evenings, you can get to know the spirits on-site from the experts, learning the story behind each bottle and witnessing the love that goes into every drop. 3. Crossover Blendery
Fancy getting your hands on some locally made beer, with flavours of the county running through each sip? Head to the Crossover Blendery for a selection of lovingly made, handcrafted brews that you won’t find anywhere else. The taproom is open from 12 pm – 8 pm on Saturdays, so now’s your chance to share your tasting notes sheet with your best beer-bud and spend an afternoon together amidst a great atmosphere and quality brews.
4. Afternoon Tea
There are so many choices across Hertfordshire where you can enjoy those little crust-free sandwiches, crumbly scones, and light, fluffy cakes, all accompanied by a delicious cup of tea. So, where will you delight the senses?
Will it be Aubrey Park, set in the historic city of St Albans? Or will your surroundings be the glorious countryside at Pendley Manor? Perhaps your afternoon tea will be taken amidst golf-course grounds at Hanbury Manor? Wherever it may be, one thing’s for sure: you foodies are in for a treat.
5. Coach House Kitchen at Hatfield House
We all know Hatfield Park for its rich history, stunning landscape, and fantastic days out. 6. At Home Farm – Woodfire Canteen
The local dining keeps on coming, and we’re now heading into the countryside and getting rural. At Home Farm’s much-loved annual Woodfired Canteen returns with a bang, serving up an array of delicious meals brought to you by three extraordinary chefs. Throughout September, each day brings with it a new and unforgettable cuisine. 7. Tewinbury Farm
Farm to fork really finds its meaning at Tewinbury Farm, where every dish they serve comes from local sources and holds the planet at its core. Healthy planet, healthy plate, and happy you, as these dishes are not only sustainable but downright delicious. Pick between their many on-site spots, whether it be proper British dining at The Cowshed or an al fresco meal in the Farm Yard. 8. The Grove
It’s not just an award-winning hotel… choose to dine at The Glasshouse Restaurant at The Grove, and you’ll find yourself stepping foot in countries all over the world to sample a myriad of cultures and flavours. Browse the busy food stations and watch quality chefs perform theatrics as they prep fresh and tasty international cuisines – and don’t forget to pack the camera!
9. Auberge du Lac, Brocket Hall
On the idyllic estate of Brocket Hall, you’ll find Auberge du Lac, boasting a fine menu, welcoming atmosphere, and fantastic views. As you tuck into some exciting dishes (did someone say homemade ravioli with a herb and lemon ricotta?), you can dine in peace knowing that your meal has been grown just metres away from your plate in the rich soil of the estate’s grounds. Quaint and quintessentially British, you can find all of the best Hertfordshire produce in one of its fantastic market towns. Browse stalls filled with fruit and veg grown just down the road, treat yourself to some lovingly made baked goods, or even get some of that all-important gift shopping done, showing someone how much you care with a present made by the people of the county.
