Armed with an already extensive back-catalogue of stunning music, Palace returned this spring with their brand new, deeply personal, fourth studio album, Ultrasound. The new record’s production saw the band reunited with Adam Jaffrey, eight years after working together on their debut album, So Long Forever, and arrives off the back of ‘Part I – When Everything Was Lost’ and ‘Part II – Nightmares & Ice Cream’, the band’s 2023 companion EPs. The band are now heading out on a huge autumn tour.

Who Are You Calling Vermin

Multi award winning composer, George Fenton, and British icon Pam Ayres have produced a new show based on the latter’s recent book of poems, ‘Who Are you Calling Vermin”. Pam introduces poems about country conflict and its impact on our lives, all set to music by George. The fledgling revue is a light-hearted exploration of tension in the countryside, which in poems, songs, and anecdotes, scrutinises the loss of wildlife, the changing climate, second homeowners, and the ever-present conflict between humans and animals.
The Commitments
17 November | Parr Hall
A soul-stirring concert experience paying tribute to a hit movie of the early 90s is coming to Parr Hall this month. Dave Finnegan, from The Commitments, is inviting Warrington audiences on a journey into sweet soul music. The musician and actor played bouncer and drummer Mickah Wallace in Alan Parker’s film about a working class band who aimed to fill the musical void in their hometown of Dublin.
Chester Literature Festival
6-16 November | Storyhouse
Chester’s annual celebration of literature, poetry and more returns this November. Booking is now open for this year’s programme of talks, workshops, and performances. This year kicked off with a special pre-festival event with Richard Ayoade on 6 October, before November’s programme featuring Ruby Wax, Simon Reeve, Lucy Worsley, George The Poet, Shaparak Khorsandi, Mackenzie Crook and many more heads to the stage.

This year’s Open Art Exhibition at Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham once again displays an exciting range of artwork entered by amateur and professional artists of all ages from across the region. A variety of 2D and 3D artwork in different mediums are on display, all of which will be for sale. This is the 38th annual event that has become a real fixture on the arts calendar in the area.
