Namaste is typically a word associated with peace and tranquillity, but the word – which comes from Sanskrit – literally means “bowing to you”. And as he watches a world on fire, as climate change, terrorism, financial instability, oceanic pollution, and depletion of natural resources tear ever more at the fabric of our lives, Omid has decided he’ll eschew tranquillity, and bow instead to his inner anger.

Legendary comedian Ben Elton has extended his sold-out Authentic Stupidity UK tour into 2025 due to phenomenal demand for tickets. The world has changed a lot since Ben last toured five years ago – a whole new existential threat has emerged to challenge our very existence: Artificial Intelligence. Apparently, it’s going to render all human life meaningless, but Ben is here to warn you that AI is not the greatest threat that we face: it’s Authentic Stupidity.

Witchcraft

Janice Brooker, Senior Librarian at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies, will be hosting a special event this month, talking about the long history of witchcraft in Hertfordshire. There were dozens of convicted witches, and here Janice will be exploring the lives and cases of some of the most notorious.

Wild Hitchin

The ‘wild’ is all around us. This community exhibition is formed from the contributions of many people, who all love nature. Throughout the exhibition participants have highlighted some of their favourite wild places, and some of the plants, animals and amazing landscapes you can see, just beyond your front door. Carrying the title ‘Wild Hitchin’, the exhibition uses Hitchin as a central starting place and looks at areas both inside and outside of town.
