Tirzah Garwood: Beyond Ravilious

The first major exhibition devoted to visionary artist and designer, Tirzah Garwood (1908–1951). Best known until now as the wife of Eric Ravilious and as the author of the autobiography Long Live Great Bardfield, Garwood excelled as a fine artist and printmaker.

To 5 January 2025 | Barbican Centre

Move through a series of life-size dioramas, viewing paintings in a narrative sequence, as a story unfurls of a ‘femme fatale’ film noir character living in an imagined colonial outpost. Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum fills The Curve with theatrical installations, building an imagined world in which to display her paintings.

Letizia Battaglia: Life, Love and Death in Sicily

Letizia Battaglia (1935-2022) was one of Italy’s most important social documentary photographers. She documented everyday life, alongside the brutal reality of the Mafia and their victims in Sicily. Her images are some of the best-known records of life in the shadow of the Mafia. This is a powerful overview of Battaglia’s extraordinary photographic work, from 1971 to 2021.

Michael Craig-Martin

Sir Michael Craig-Martin RA fills our Main Galleries with colour at this retrospective of his 60-year career. A key figure in British art, Michael Craig-Martin is one of the most influential artists and teachers of his generation. Since coming to prominence in the late 1960s he has moved between sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, prints and digital works, creating a body of work that has fused elements from pop, minimalism and conceptual art.

Mark's career in journalism started in 2001 when he landed a role on a small lifestyle magazine in Angel, North London. Soon enough, the magazine was purchased by a larger organisation and Mark found himself promoted to editor at the tender age of 23. He later became group editor, working on magazines for Angel, Crouch End, Muswell Hill and Highgate. He was also involved in a launch in Hadley Wood and a major new group website, later becoming Group Hub Editor. To date, Mark has launched in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Sussex, Essex, Yorkshire and Cheshire. When he does have some free time, Mark is also the Chairman of an amateur football club in Surrey and is also a fully qualified FA football coach.
