For a stay fit for an emperor, check into Bulgari Hotel Roma.

Checking In to Luxury

As I stood captivated by the Colosseum, the history unfolding before me, my mind kept wandering back to the luxury of the Bulgari Hotel Roma. Ever since I checked in, its grandeur lingered with me. Would slipping away from our guided tour to bask a little longer in our suite’s comfort be too much?

A Hotel Teeming with Heritage

Back at the hotel awaited wonders of both past and present: an original Roman sculpture of Emperor Augustus from 1 BC, a commanding view of his Mausoleum, and, adding a splash of modernity, a vibrant collection of Bulgari jewels. The temptation was strong, but the Colosseum won this round.

The Bulgari Hotel Roma is more than just a place to stay; it’s a full-circle moment for the Bulgari brand. Opened last year as the ninth property of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, with more on the horizon, it marks a return to where it all began. Bulgari, synonymous with high-end Italian craftsmanship, was founded in this city back in 1884, mere steps from the hotel on Via Condotti.

The Embodiment of Italian Elegance

The Bulgari brand’s signature luxury encapsulates every corner of the hotel. The ambiance is unmistakably refined, from Murano-crafted glass lamps gracing the lobby to the Ginori porcelain vases from the 1930s. A lush array of over 4,500 potted plants softens the extensive use of marble, while the guest corridors exude a classic retro charm, enhanced by tasteful lighting and vintage Bulgari posters.

Our Junior Suite was a haven of mid-century modern elegance. It boasted views of the Mausoleum and a charming balcony, perfect for enjoying a quiet morning coffee. The in-room design was functional and stylish, with luxurious touches like a Dyson hairdryer to combat the Roman humidity. Even sleep is indulged in with utmost care at the Bulgari Hotel, thanks to plush bedding, soundproofing, and a diverse pillow menu.

The Bulgari Suite is the crown jewel among the hotel’s 114 rooms. Occupying an entire floor, it promises unmatched luxury, complete with a private kitchen, bespoke textiles from Rubelli, and an exquisite bathtub sculpted from arabesque marble. Residing here comes at a premium, with a nightly rate of £32,000.

Culinary Delights by Chef Niko Romito

When it comes to dining, the hotel’s Il Ristorante on the fifth floor stands out. Niko Romito, one of Italy’s most celebrated chefs, carefully curated its menu. The five-course Sharing Menu is a gastronomic tour de force featuring dishes that epitomize Italian cuisine. For a perfect end to the evening, La Terrazza offers stunning city views and an array of nightcaps under the stars.

A Leisurely Start: All-Day Breakfast

At Il Café, breakfast is not constrained by time. It accommodates late risers with an a la carte menu that can be savored well into the day. From Eggs Royale to international fare, every dish is served with a flair, suited for indulgent mornings on the terrace or in the comfort of your room.

A Prime Locale and Luxurious Unwind

Situated in the upscale Campo Marzio district, the hotel is within walking distance of iconic landmarks. After soaking in the city’s splendor, the Bulgari Spa awaits, offering a tranquil escape with its majestic indoor pool lined with marble columns, gold mosaics, and elegant fountains.

Though the Roman Empire’s rise spanned centuries, the Bulgari Hotel Roma captured my affection in mere days, weaving the allure of a storied brand into the fabric of contemporary hospitality. A testament to luxury that has, quite simply, stood the test of time.
