With 2018 in full swing, health and wellbeing travel specialist The Healthy Holiday Company has shared its top tips on this year’s most exciting health and wellness holidays
2018 WELLNESS HOLIDAYS
From retreats focused on ‘joy and happiness’ in Greece, to the combo of fitness sessions and DJ sets in Fuerteventura and the perfect hotel for a ‘dry January’ detox in Dubai, these new wellness holidays are lining up to counter the effects of the festive season and ensure holiday plans are healthier for 2018.
Opening March 2018
Located in a private pine forest overlooking Sparta on the Greek mainland and watched over by the UNESCO town of Mystras, the Euphoria Retreat is expected to be a real Titan among destination spas opening in March 2018. Just an hour for Kalamata and two from Athens, this year-round wellness hotel is a place of healing and transformation, built in a 200-year-old building that blends ancient Greek architecture with the Chinese theme of the five elements. The underlying philosophy is to help guests tune into their own joy and happiness with an impressive four-story spa (combining yoga studios, hydrotherapy pools, salt rooms and a Tepidarium) as their base. As well as a range of wellness programmes- from weight-loss and detox to healthy ageing and emotional transformation- other activities will include boat trips, mountain trekking, energy healing and creative dance.
A 7x night programme (choose from any of the above) is available from £2,950pp (single occupancy) including direct flights from London-Kalamata.
FeelViana, Viana do Castelo, Portugal
This exciting new sport-focused hotel has just opened on Cabedelo Beach, close to Viana do Castelo in Northern Portugal and just a 45-minute drive from Porto. With just 64 rooms/suites in total, the hotel offers plenty of room for guests to relax as well as access to a full spa and a plethora of sporting pursuits including surfing, SUP, kitesurfing, windsurfing and sailing. Guests will also have direct access to 400km of biking trails, 320km of hiking routes and special running circuits taking in beach, river and mountains. Those looking for something a little more relaxing can also practise yoga and Pilates, enjoy the Turkish Baths or simply lounge beside outdoor and indoor pools. Younger guests will also love the Adventurers Club, which offers plenty of activities to keep families busy.
A 7x night holiday is available from £695pp based on two sharing a Standard Garden Room on a B&B basis, including return flights. Fitness classes start from £30 (for a 1.30hr SUP tour, a 2hr bike tour, a 2hr guided hike or a 1.5hr group surf class) and rise to £140 for a 3hr kitesurfing lesson or a 3hr windsurfing lesson.
The Retreat Palm, Dubai
After opening in October 2017, this hotel is the Middle East’s first ever holistic wellness resort, based on Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah waterfront. Not only does it offer a huge variety of spa, detox and wellness holidays packages, but it is also completely free of alcohol, meaning those that want to take part in serious detoxes or ‘dry January’ will have absolutely no temptations to worry about. As well as the typical spa rejuvenation packages, there are also serious detox and fitness programmes designed to improve physical and mental wellbeing, led by experts from the famed Dr Marilyn Glenville Health Clinics in London, Kent, Dublin, Cork and Galway. Free time can be best spent on cookery classes (the hotel’s two restaurants only serve food that is at least 85% organic) in complimentary fitness sessions or simply soaking up the sun by the pool.
A 5 night holiday is available from £1,079 pp based on two sharing a double room on a bed and breakfast basis including return flights and complimentary classes. Special 35% discount book by 15 February.
Sol Beach House, Fuerteventura
Opening March 2018
Based on the idyllic Sotavento Beach (within the Jandía Natural Park) on the island’s south coast, the adult-oriented Sol Beach House Fuerteventura opens in March 2018. As well as offering an impressive range of spa treatments, fitness sessions, yoga classes and open-air Pilates tutorials, guests can relax in the hotel’s Zen Feng Shui area, hop on a vintage bike for a cycle along the coast, head to the healthy juice bar a snack and a detox shot, or simply unwind beside the swimming pool- with views towards the Sotavento Lagoon. For the more adventurous, the René Egli windsurfing and kitesurfing school (it is expected to be the largest in the world when it opens) is based on the beach opposite. Come evening savour healthy Mediterranean cuisine and enjoy acoustic sessions, before cocktails and DJ sessions at dusk.
A 7x night holiday is available from just £695pp based on two sharing a Junior Suite on a B&B basis, including direct flights from London Fuerteventura.
7 Pines, Ibiza
Opening May 2018
Ibiza has long done hypnotic sunsets, glamorous restaurants, wellbeing, spa treatments and designer accommodation but in March next year the opening of the 7 Pines Resort Hotel is about to bring all of this together in one place; located opposite the mystical Es Vedra rock. There are pools but no parties and sunset decks but no DJs, with a real focus on calm, relaxation and wellbeing. Set amongst pine forests, the resort has close to 200 suites (many with private pools), three restaurants, three pools and is just five-minutes from the secluded Cala Codolar beach. Plus, there will be DIY yoga and wellness classes as well as an impressive 1,500sqm Pure Seven Spa; offering signature treatments using organic local ingredients such as Ibiza salt, rosemary, pine honey, olive oil and oranges.
Book now to save 20% before 31 March – a 7x night holiday is now available from £1,180pp based on two sharing a double room on a B&B basis including return flights and airport transfers.
Prices start from £695pp for week-long breaks in either Portugal and Fuerteventura, based on two sharing on a B&B basis.
