A stylish radiator is an essential component of a home makeover

By Eve Herbert

Founders of travel and lifestyle Instagram The Adventures of Us and London creative agency Seventeen Social Club, Sarah-Louise Marks and Christopher Phelps are multidisciplinary creatives whose work spans photography, creative direction, travel, design and music.

They live in Kew with their cat Mala, in a stylish house that has its own instagram account, @no.17house, as a window into their carefully curated world. It’s a Victorian house, built in 1901, which they spent two years searching for. Inside, they took inspiration from Parisian apartments and Brooklyn townhouses and kept most walls and floors bright white, adding lots of contemporary details to create a contrast of old and new.

Castrads radiatorsCentral to the refurb has been an ongoing partnership with Castrads, whose beautifully crafted cast iron radiators are ideally suited to London’s Victorian housing stock. For their bedroom, Marks and Phelps chose the Duchess model, pictured, a traditionally shaped piece with rounded tops, curved feet and antique brass Chatsworth finishes.

The entire room – walls, ceiling, skirting boards and wardrobes – is painted in Paint and Paper Library’s Slate V shade, which is continued on the radiators, making them sit seamlessly against the walls. In the living room, the floral design of the Viscount radiator is one of the pair’s favourite things in their home, and it is again painted to match the walls in Farrow and Ball’s All White.

Castrads RadiatorsCastrads, established in England, manufactures custom-built, custom-finished radiators as well as controls and fittings that are suitable for both steam and hydronic heating systems. Inspired by the past but always looking to the future, their products combine classic form and enduring functionality with the most up-to-date technology.
