Look cool when camping with our edit of fifteen of the best grown-up festival fashion buys
Words Joy Montgomery
Every year the high street churns out the same cookie cutter ‘festival fashion‘ looks. Most of these are, unfortunately, primarily designed for curveless pre-teens. Pap shots of skimpily-clad Kendall Jenner and co frolicking through the Cali sunshine are not representative of our festival reality – sadly.
Goodbye crop tops, farewell impractical tassels, au revoir scratchy scratchy sequins. We’ve faithfully stuck by you for many mud-encrusted seasons, but it’s just not working anymore. This year it’s all about stylish, grown-up looks that we feel comfortable in. After all, why dramatically change your style identity for a five-day event?
Perhaps you love the blow-out bohemian festi-fashion look – crochet bikini top, sequinned hairline and all – well then go for it. However, there are some of us who want something different – something a little more down-to-earth. Well, just for you we’ve found fifteen festival fashion looks that are firmly in the grown-up camp.
This year we want to channel Kate Moss c.2005 mashed-up with a bit of 2017’s western-inspired trend. This looks like Madeworn’s rock n’ roll Rolling Stones tee paired with denim cut-offs and Topshop’s Montana western ankle boots. Rockins’ skinny scarf knotted over Saint Laurent’s red breton, or Uniqlo’s khaki raincoat thrown over Stella McCartney’s denim cowboy shirt.
It’s all about choosing chic separates – ones you would be happy wearing back in the city – and giving them a festival twist. Less time untangling tassels and trying not to flash people means more time dancing the night away, which can never be a bad thing.
