friendrequest is taking social offline

It’s Friday night, your phone keeps buzzing, notification after notification, you keep scrolling. Look, @sarahlondon is hanging out at that hipster bar everyone is gushing about, and @joshshaw got tickets for this sold out new show. You snuggle up under the blanket and keep scrolling…

It’s impossible to imagine life without the internet these days. Mobile phones are a constant presence in our lives, we rely on them more than ever for everything. The internet has revolutionised the way we interact with each other, we spend more time being social on our phones and devices than we do in person.

friendrequest wants to help change that. The brand new app launching exclusively on iOS has been designed so that people like you can meet new friends around London and bond over mutual interests such as yoga classes, cooking classes or comedy shows, all booked through the app.

The app features the world’s first profile card that adapts to show the real YOU to like-minded people looking to connect and explore London, inspiring a friendship you may not have thought possible. You don’t need to worry about the perfect details to enter on your profile card, just express yourself as much as you want and friendrequest takes care of the rest to ensure you put your best and real foot forward with everyone on the platform.

A study undertaken by scientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine found that the more time people spend on social media, the more likely it is for them to feel socially isolated. There are various reasons: frequent social media use leaves less time for ‘real life’ interactions, people present idealized versions of themselves online, they present a world they might desire, but don’t live in, everything appears literally picture perfect.

“We are inherently social creatures, but modern life tends to compartmentalize us instead of bringing us together,” the study’s lead author, Dr. Brian A. Primack, said. “While it may seem that social media presents opportunities to fill that social void, I think this study suggests that it may not be the solution people were hoping for.”

This is where friendrequest comes in. The app developers’ mission “Taking Social Offline” and bringing people together is to be taken literally.

They even help you start off every conversation with a little ice-breaker to gets things going. So, no more awkward chats.

With a curated list of popular activities to do in London every day, the app takes away the headache of planning something fun to do. With no middle-man, you will find direct links to the official booking page of your activity with in-app confirmation. There’s no need to switch between multiple apps or websites to complete your booking before starting your adventure with your new friend.

Turning digital connections into real friendships has never been easier.
