The Genesis of Furnish & Fettle

Eleanor talks to Absolutely about meeting Glyn in 1992, their journey from agricultural college to pursuing careers, and how a shared passion for renovating homes led to helping others do the same — a natural precursor to their venture into the design business.

Realizing a Joint Vision

The couple’s desire to start a business intensified with the arrival of their children, aspiring for flexibility. Though the reality proved different, it instilled strong business acumen and work ethic in their family, laying the foundation for Furnish & Fettle.

Launching the Dream

Launched in 2016 through the acquisition of James Brindley in Wetherby, Furnish & Fettle sought to transform a homewares shop into a full-scale professional interior design practice capable of managing complete projects from concept to the final touches.

The Dynamics of a Husband-Wife Team

Running a business together has its challenges, chiefly the difficulty of disconnecting. Yet, their mutual trust and complementary skill sets have been the linchpin of Furnish & Fettle’s success.

Evolving with Intent

Significant growth and transformation mark Furnish & Fettle’s journey from its early days. Today, it boasts a team of professionally trained designers, strong supplier relationships, and a focus on inspiring clients through their showrooms rather than traditional retail.

Client Engagement: The Furnish & Fettle Way

Clients are welcomed into the showrooms for a complimentary discovery appointment. This initial interaction sets the stage for understanding clients’ aspirations and aligning on the vision – a crucial step in crafting someone’s dream home.

Standout Yorkshire Projects

Eleanor shares three notable projects: transforming a period property, downsizing a Victorian home, and ongoing work with the luxury Grantley Hall.

Current Endeavours

Among various residential projects, Furnish & Fettle is currently working on a former shooting lodge intended for luxury holiday rentals and a unique care home project that aims to elevate the standard of resident interiors.

Embracing Local Heritage

The towns of Wetherby and Pocklington, steeped in Yorkshire’s market town tradition, hold a special place in Eleanor’s heart and play a vital role in keeping the local high street vibrant.

Vision for the Future

Furnish & Fettle has no aspirations for global domination. Instead, it focuses on excelling within Yorkshire, expanding its commercial portfolio, and eagerly anticipating its first international project.
