Have you spent years pining for long locks? Make 2017 the year you reach new lengths with our guide to the best products to make your hair grow
Words Joy Montgomery
Waiting for your hair to grow can be a painstaking and tedious process. Perhaps you went for the chop and are trying to grow your hair back to its previous glory. Or maybe you’ve binge-watched Gossip Girl and fallen head-over-heels for Serena’s gold-spun locks. Guilty as charged. Whatever the reason, trying to coax your hair to grow faster isn’t a straightforward process.
The sad reality is that there’s not quick fix (unless you opt for some cheeky extensions). There are, however, a few ways to help your hair along the way. We’ve rounded-up the best products to give your locks the best chance of reaching new lengths for spring.
SLEEP ON A SILK PILLOW CASE
Try swapping your usual cotton pillow with one made of silk. The fabric is kinder on hair and will help avoid tangles and breakage, which can lead to split ends and slower growth.
KEEP YOUR SCALP HEALTHY
One of the most important ways to help your hair grow is to target the root of the problem – literally. If your scalp is unhealthy then your hair will be too. Happy scalp = happy hair. Try scalp cleansing shampoos or topical treatments and lotions.
BOOST WITH SUPPLEMENTS
Eating well and living a healthy lifestyle is an important factor of good hair. You need to feed it from the inside. Make sure you eat plenty of protein and supplement your diet with hair, skin and nails vitamins.
We know it’s not exactly what you want to hear, but in this situation slow and steady wins the race, we promise. Haircuts obviously won’t make your grow quickly by themselves, however getting rid of split ends, which can lead to loss of length long term.
Where possible avoid unnecessary damage, which will delay growth. Use protecting spray when styling hair with heated tools and opt for a wet brush or tangle teaser to detangle wet hair. We also love SILKE’s hair wraps, which extend time between washes and minimise breakage.
