Beauty Review: Chop Chop, Old Street

Contents

Not only is Chop-Chop incredibly affordable, it also, as the name illustrates, is quick – you can be in and out in 20 minutes if you’re in a rush

Words Lucie Pearce

I was recently getting my hair coloured at a salon where I had also booked in for a cut. All I wanted was a trim, because a trim is all I need. Sitting in my foils, I picked up the menu and realised that this was going to cost me £65. When you’re already shelling out more money than I care to write about, never mind think about, £65 for an inch of hair seems preposterous. I cancelled the cut and came into work to moan about it the next day.

Which is when I found out about Chop-Chop. Now with three locations across London, including Old Street, Westfields White City and Eurostar in St Pancras, Chop-Chop offers quality cuts at affordable prices. £20 in fact, for a range of hair types, with Afro, blunt bob and pixie cuts all costing exactly the same.

Not only is Chop-Chop incredibly affordable, it also, as the name illustrates, is quick – you can be in and out in 20 minutes if you’re in a rush. Which is particularly helpful if you’ve got a bit of time at the Eurostar gate. If you’re looking for guidance, check out the Chop-Chop look book, where there are 24 hairstyles that can all be achieved within 20 minutes. They also offer braiding and styling if you don’t need a cut. All you have to do is turn up with clean hair, and you’re ready to go.

When I arrived for my cut, I was handed a Bellini, and then we all knew how this review was going to read. Full disclosure: my hair is heavily bleached, and I am lazy. And it turns out you can’t really hide that from your hairdresser. We spoke about my (lack of) routine, the type of hair I have and the cuts that would complement it the most, how much I wanted taken off, the effects of the bleach on my hair, and how I could best combat these. I walked out half an hour later with thicker, healthier hair and a resolution to look after my hair better.

All advice I have taken on board. Later on, I did buy the products that were suggested but not forced on me and they are making such a difference. And instead of waiting four months, I’m finally going to be a grown up and go every four-six weeks. Seven at a push.
