Don’t let the changeable weather catch you off-guard – be trans-seasonal style ready with 15 of the best spring jackets
Words Joy Montgomery
Hooray, you’ve made it! We’ve groped our way out of what’s felt like the longest winter of our lives (let us never speak of it again). We’ve come out the other side, blinded by that big shiny thing in the sky – hello sun, how we’ve missed you.
Spring is finally here *insert cliches about newborn lambs, blossom and daffodils* and we can’t wait to pack away our shearling jacket and winter knits. But, in true British style, we saunter out at the first sign of sun, bare legs exposed and SPF slathered on, only to be blasted by an artic wind. Damn you spring. But, on the bright side, April weather is the perfect opportunity to embrace a new spring jacket. It’s all about fresh, fun and light layers. No longer do we need to bury our favourite tops under bulky overcoats.
Jackets have the ability to change the mood of any look, while still letting the rest of your outfit shine. A shirt and jeans combo is made fashion-forward with a statement pinstripe blazer, a flowly floral dress toughened up by a leather biker, a white tee made smart by a sharp tuxedo jacket. Do you really need persuading?
This season both high street and designer brands have gone to town with trans-seasonal jackets. Trenches – that spring classic – have been adapted into a variety of new styles and colourways. We love Acne Studios’ bottle green iteration – the perfect frame for a SS17 gingham dress. Denim jackets are also having a comeback, and & Other Stories’ button-up number is very 2017 with its minimalist cut and frilled detailing. Meanwhile, Rosetta Getty’s shawl coat is a thoroughly wearable version of this year’s robe trend. All it needs is a pair of wide leg jeans, skinny knit and oversized hoops.
