2017 Festival Hair Guide: Easy Top Knots

2017 Festival Hair Guide: Easy Top Knots
Contents

Top knots are the cool hairstyle to embrace this season. Nail the technique in time for summer festivals with a little help from Hare & Bone’s Sam Burnett

IF YOU HAVE FINE, FLAT HAIR

“Prep the hair by shampooing with a volumising shampoo and treatment. The Kerasilk Re Power is amazing. Go armed with a good dry shampoo for day two or three. Apply this to your roots when you get back to the tent so it cleanses your hair whilst you are sleeping. You could try experimenting with a clip on pony for the end of the festival, if your hair looks a little too lived in, pull it back into the pony and add a hair piece.”

IF YOU HAVE CURLY, FRIZZY HAIR

“One option is to try the new Kerasilk Control De-frizz service for smooth, frizz controlled hair that lasts for four to six weeks. This is a one-hour express service that’s perfect for festivals, keeping your hair tamed so you can leave it to dry naturally in the sun. Begin using deep moisturising treatments in advance to hydrate your hair in preparation, healthy hair is happy hair. Use a good quality moisturising curl creamed combined with a controlling oil and allow hair to dry naturally, this will allow the curls to set in their natural form, therefore minimising frizz.”

IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR THAT’S PRONE TO TANGLING

“Make sure you pack a natural bristle brush, I recommend Mason and Pearson. Ensuring you brush the ends regularly to prevent tangling and causing unnecessary damage. Take some great hair bands and scrunchies that can be used to accessorise with a pony or braid. During the day try dampening your hair slightly with KMS Moist Repair Leave-in Conditioner Spray then experiment with different braids. When your hair is dry you can let your hair flow free from the braid for a fun textured look for the evening.”

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

Step 1. Prep your hair by cleansing thoroughly to make your hair go the distance. Apply the KMS TAMEFRIZZ Smoothing Reconstructor mask to mid lengths and ends to hydrate and soften the hair.

Step 2. Blow dry the hair with a good quality mouse or sea salt spray to give the hair texture and last-ability. If needed, add some movement by twist drying and defining a few areas with a tong.

Step 3. Decide on the type of knot you’re going for. For the half up top knot, pull the hair back from your face to the crown area, secure with a hair band, twisting or knotting some of the hair back on itself and securing by continuing to wrap with the elastic. To create space knots – repeat the process but instead of one pony go for two, one either side of the crown. For The Bantu knots take smaller sections and repeat all over the head until all of your hair is up.
