We speak to Andrea Ellis, Sales & Events Executive for The Shed in Marlow, the unique 10-seater Hand & Flowers offshoot
When was The Shed first launched and what was the idea behind it?
The Shed launched in 2016 and was originally used as the development kitchen for The Hand & Flowers, but as the popularity of the pub grew, we started getting more and more requests for private dining so we decided to turn The Shed into this unique culinary space for just ten guests. The Hand & Flowers’ kitchen expanded, and we were able to develop dishes from there.
Where is it located?
The Shed is located at 32 West Street, Marlow, and is just a stone’s throw away from The Hand & Flowers.
How have you designed the space?
Seating ten guests, The Shed has recently been completely refurbished and offers a highly interactive, fine dining experience in an informal, relaxed setting. High-backed leather seats run along a large marble counter, so guests have a front row seat to all the culinary theatre and are able to chat to the chefs as they prep and cook dishes.
Why do you think people enjoy such an intimate dining experience? Do guests enjoy seeing the dishes put together in front of them?
Unlike many other private dining rooms, The Shed offers a unique experience, similar to a chef’s table, but in your own private space! Each private dining event has exclusive use of The Shed, your own chef throughout and one of our senior Hand & Flowers hosts. Our chefs encourage interaction and are at their happiest when explaining the processes behind each dish and how each individual ingredient comes together.
Who are the chefs involved?
The Shed includes a team of senior chefs from both the two Michelin star The Hand & Flowers and the one Michelin star The Coach. The menus have been created by this creative team and are overseen by Tom Kerridge.
What can we expect on The Shed’s menu?
The chefs take pride in developing seasonal menus for The Shed, sourcing only the very best ingredients. The Shed offers a four-course menu, priced at £150 per person.
Alongside the food, Gavin Hills, wine expert at The Hand & Flowers, is on hand to recommend wines to pair with each course to compliment the menu.
The Shed offers a five-course set tasting menu, priced at £250 per person. This menu also includes canapés on arrival, petit fours, a glass of fizz and paired wines with each course, as well as a signed copy of The Hand & Flowers Cookbook per group booking.
Do you have any events planned for the summer?
The Shed hosts a range of exciting events throughout the year. This year, to celebrate the culinary talent across the UK, The Shed is hosting a “Taste of Britain” guest chef series. Guest chefs include Gareth Ward, Nathan Davies, Lorna McNee, John Walton and Luke Holder. There are only a few places remaining so book now to avoid disappointment.
Another popular event hosted by The Shed is our Butcher’s Experience with Jamie May, Executive Chef and Butcher at The Butcher’s Tap & Grill. These experiences take place three or four times per year and celebrate British butchery. Please follow The Shed Instagram @theshedmarlow for details of all upcoming events.
The Shed really is the perfect venue for all special occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, retirement celebrations, Christmas parties, small wedding celebrations, corporate lunches, client entertainment, team dinners, work incentives and family get togethers.
The Shed is also the perfect venue to host a Christmas event and we offer a specially created four-course Christmas menu and a six-course Christmas tasting menu.
The Shed offers bespoke gift vouchers, for private dining in The Shed, and these are perfect gifts or great auction prizes.
