Missing pubs and bars? Make your own gin instead with this DIY kit
By Eve Herbert
For many, the only dry thing about this month will be the gin – and we don’t blame you. A cocktail at the end of the week was one of the few pleasures that an otherwise miserable 2020 had to offer. However, there is something you can do to make your evening routine a bit more exciting: create your own perfect spirit with 58 Gin’s Make Your Own Gin kit, a virtual version of their Gin School in Haggerston.
It begins online where you define your ideal flavour profile; whether you prefer citrus, spiced, herbal or floral flavours, your bespoke beverage will be ideally suited to your taste buds.
Next, choose up to six botanicals to include, from warming grains of paradise to tangy grapefruit, before deciding whether you want your liquid to be pink or clear. You can even name your gin and personalise your bottle.
The team at 58 Gin’s London artisan distillery will then bring your creation to life with the addition of essential London Dry gin ingredients: juniper, orris and angelica root.
The finished result is two 70cl bottles which are then delivered to an address of your choosing nationwide, so you can treat yourself or gift a fellow gin lover.
It’s housed in pink packaging and the bottles are so pretty you won’t want to get rid of them (everything is 100% recyclable, even the glass corks). The distillery has impressive sustainable credentials: it uses surplus and foraged berries while botanical waste is gifted to a local church garden.
