Seafood Week is back from the 5-12 with daily species, recipes and inspiration to help you discover new fish and shellfish dishes. Here we’ve rounded up our favourite spots for seafood in London.
Where to eat during Seafood Week
QUAGLINO’S
Synonymous with style and glamour since its establishment in 1929, Quaglino’s restaurant and bar has been a bastion of the London culinary scene for almost a century. The bar has recently launched a new cocktail menu, focusing on sustainability and with a decidedly oceanic theme. Try the oysters which are served with Nduja and vermouth gratin, and wash them down with the Vitamin Sea cocktail; a delicious mix of Tanqueray Gin, Italicus, Maraschino, Bergamot Juice, Lavender Syrup and Bob’s Ginger Bitter served in a shell.
SARONA
Sarona in Clerkenwell has recently launched a new Autumn menu featuring an abundance of dishes packed full of thoughtful flavour combinations. For a taste of the Middle East this Seafood Week, we love the sea bass sashimi with creamy ajo blanco, green chili and fresh basil.
OSLO
Drawing on a Nordic aesthetic, OSLO is situated in the heart of Hackney in a redeveloped Victorian railway station. Expect top quality food and drink and an abundance of entertainment. A shrimp sub has to be the dish of the day this week; this pillowy soft New England brioche sub comes stuffed to the gills with baby shrimp, dashi mayo, baby gem lettuce, spring onions and bonito flakes.
HONI POKÉ
Hawaiian poké specialists Honi Poké offer a great choice of seafood at both of their Soho and Fenchurch sites. Committed to bringing full-on Pacific flavours to London, each protein-packed bowl is filled with cubes of fresh fish and seafood including tuna, salmon and flame-torched octopus. Honi Poké is passionate about the best quality ingredients, using only responsibly sourced and sustainably caught, sashimi grade, raw fish.
OUTLAW’S AT THE CAPITAL
Michelin-starred Executive Chef, Nathan Outlaw, led by Head Chef, Andrew Sawyer – champions sustainable dining by avoiding fish markets and instead works closely with their Cornish dayboat fishermen. This October, Outlaw’s at The Capital is celebrating seafood all month with the upcoming Shipping Fourcast series. Nathan will host a collection of mouth-watering seafood supper clubs with Rockfish restaurateur Mitch Tonks (1st October), Hawksmoor’s Richard Turner (15th October), and Tim Barnes of Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen (29th October). To book, please call the events team on 020 7591 1202 or email [email protected]
FENCHURCH
Located 155 metres up, the spectacular Sky Garden offers a gourmet, garden oasis operated by renowned caterer rhubarb and show-stopping views across the capital and far beyond. Fenchurch is overseen by talented Head Chef Daniel Fletcher. Following his triumph in the North East heat of Great British Menu, Dan has launched a dedicated five-course tasting menu to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS. His fish course, ‘For all the sleepless nights’ is an English native lobster, heritage carrots, dill, caviar and bonito sauce and can be enjoyed as part of the five-course tasting menu (£85), the perfect toast to Seafood week.
THE BOTANIST SLOANE SQUARE
Choose from an array of exquisite fish plates at Chelsea hotspot, The Botanist Sloane Square, this Seafood Week. Tuck into the delicate starter of Bass ceviche with plantain, red onion and passion fruit, or a hearty Catalan seafood stew, created using only the highest quality, responsibly sourced ingredients.
CARLUCCIO’S
There’s nothing like enjoying a plate of fresh seafood, with a cooling glass of spritz, overlooking the jewelled Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the Mediterranean weather won’t stretch to the UK shores in October but Carluccio’s, members of the Sustainable Seafood Coalition, are urging everyone to enjoy the best of Italian seafood and fish this Seafood Week. Serving up seasonal vongole, lobster tagliolini and cod with mussels, all of the fish served at Carluccio’s is MSC certified 3 or above, making sure that you can enjoy a delicious, ethical meal.
SAVAGE GARDEN
Located 12 stories above the concrete jungle below, new rooftop bar Savage Garden offers twisted cocktails within a dark, scorched and brutal interior. Dishes pack a punch and get a moody makeover – go savage this Seafood Week with black treacle cured salmon, served with miso yoghurt and smoked radish, which is available as part of the Savagely Swift two-course lunch for just £18 per person.
ORMER MAYFAIR
Bringing inspiration from the shores of The Channel Islands to the heart of London, Ormer Mayfair, the restaurant from Michelin-awarded chef Shaun Rankin, boasts a stunning menu bursting with fresh, seasonal dishes. Highlight mains to enjoy this Seafood Week include Dover sole with smoked salmon, potato and leek risotto, served with crisp quail’s eggs; and turbot with a pistachio and pine nut crust, cauliflower, pickled cockles and sea vegetables.
INDIAN ACCENT
Seafood Week gets an accent of spice at Mayfair’s hottest new dining destination Indian Accent, which landed in London following wildly successful openings in New Delhi and New York. Chef Manish Mehrotra crafts contemporary dishes which offer a modern twist on traditional Indian cuisine. Seasonal fish dishes to expect in October include tiger prawns with Indian sorrel chutney – enjoy as part of the three-course dinner menu for £55 per person.
TOM, DICK AND HARRY’S
Celebrate Seafood Week with new kids on the block Tom, Dick and Harry’s, Loughton and enjoy a decadent taste of the seaside with lobster on chips, inspired by owner Lee Newton’s Caribbean travels. Head chef Michael Carter also brings a host of sea-inspired dishes to his signature ‘Nibbelini’ dishes, including Fried crisp Cornish squid, Tartine of Cornish crab and Chargrilled prawns with aioli.
