Nice Work Races is exploring and celebrating the connection between running for mental health and how that is amplified when immersed in nature. Runners will experience spectacular forestscapes and natural woodlands, providing a healthy dose of ecotherapy as an escape from the stressors of modern life. Wild Wendover (November): Hills, hills and …you guessed it, more hills! Set in the gateway to the stunning Chiltern hills, runners can choose distances including a full marathon, half-marathon, 10k and even a one-kilometre dash! Whichever you choose, the Jaffa cakes at the finish line will always be well-deserved.

Musical maestro Jools Holland and his revered Rhythm & Blues Orchestra are heading out on a run of dates with special guests for their 2023 autumn/winter UK tour. The tour will take in 30 shows across the UK including two dates at London’s Royal Albert Hall, plus this gig at Reading’s Hexagon. Renowned as one of the UK’s most popular tours, this year the show will feature The Selecter’s Pauline Black and Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson as special guests.

Beauty and the Beast

Magic, mayhem and mystery lie ahead this Christmas in Beauty and the Beast, this year’s pantomime at the Corn Exchange Newbury. Making her return after starring in Cinderella in 2021, Chloe Gentles (Winnie The Pooh, Riverside Studios/UK Tour, Mamma Mia!, UK Tour) plays Belle, whilst Nathan Shaw (The Rocky Horror Show, UK Tour; Walk Like A Man, UK Tour) stars opposite her as the Beast. With roaringly funny jokes, beastly amounts of magic, and a hit list of songs for all ages, this fantastic production is not to be missed.

Santa Claus will be coming to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Christmas Market
at the charity’s southern training centre, The Grange. Adults and children alike are invited to join them for unique, good-quality gifts, food, mulled wine and entertainment. A visit to Father Christmas in his grotto is included in the entry price (although donations on the day will be gratefully received and will help to change the lives of more deaf people).

Jesus Christ Superstar

A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for decades, Jesus Christ Superstar’s iconic 1970s rock score was originally released as a concept album and opened on Broadway in 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. The original London production ran for over eight years – by the time it closed, after 3,358 performances, it had become the longest-running musical in West End history at that time.

King of the Castle
There’s a new addition to Marlow’s flourishing art scene
Castle Fine Art have opened their new gallery in Market Square, Marlow. The specially curated collection of both original and limited edition artworks have been selected for the art-loving town.
Managing director, Ian Weatherby-Blythe, says: “We have been looking for a gallery space in Marlow for some time, as we know that it’s a location where residents have a particular passion for fine art. We have finally found the perfect location for the new gallery and are really looking forward to becoming part of the community.
“Castle Fine Art is committed to making art accessible to all whilst uniting our collectors, with exciting modern artists. We pride ourselves on both the quality and service we provide to our clients and new collectors.”
The Marlow gallery will display works by Bob Dylan and Billy Connolly; artists only available at Castle Fine Art. The second edition of Johnny Depp’s Friends and Heroes collection, exclusive to Castle, will also be available.
With an extensive curation of artwork, residents can discover pieces by Pop Art pioneer James Francis Gill, street art icon Richard Hambleton, elusive artist James McQueen and landscape artists Paul Corfield, Paul Kenton and Lawrence Coulson. There are also pieces by acclaimed re-creator of Old Masters John Myatt, artist and fashion photographer Raphael Mazzucco and Richard Rowan, master of painting on glass, plus art by Dan Lane, Whatshisname, Nic Jolly, Shazia, Jon Jones, Robert Oxley, Pascale Taurua and Scarlett Raven.
