Words Annabel Fuller
Tequila lovers rejoice as World Tequila Day returns to the capital. This global celebration of all things tequila falls on Wednesday 24 July this year, meaning you’ve got all weekend to keep the festivities going at some of London’s hottest cocktail bars. From classy, sophisticated serves to seriously funky concoctions, these locations are serving up the coolest tequila creations to suit all tastes, making National Tequila Day one to remember… or not.
Skylight Rooftop at Tobacco Dock
Head over to the panoramic Skylight Rooftop at Tobacco Dock to enjoy uninterrupted views across the city’s skyline, while savouring a unique tequila cocktail. The ‘Jalisco Sky’ exudes cool creativity: a rose-pink cocktail served over crushed ice, garnished with fresh mint and a toasted marshmallow. Delicious.
Nightjar
Slip into this speakeasy-style bar and sample the Paloma Rose Fizz from their new menu. With Olmeca Altos Tequila, Palma Rosa passion berry, Ontario leaf tea, lemon osmanthus cordial and Gosnells mead, this drink is a masterclass in flavour balancing.
The Savoy
Famous for its dark, emotive interiors, dramatic serves and live performances, the Savoy’s Beaufort Bar is one of our top picks for National Tequila Day. On the menu here, you’ll find The Founder, comprised of Patron Silver tequila, Martini Rubino vermouth, Verjus, Tomato and celery shrub and Audemus Unami.
Murder Inc.
With its striking artwork and neon signs, Murder Inc. is where industrial New York meets mid-century glamour. The bar will be serving quirky tequila cocktails, as well as jugs of Margarita, live music and even a rainbow pinata called Cinnamon, making it an ideal place to celebrate with friends.
Oriole
Step into the tropical oasis that is Oriole and be transported to the far corners of the globe by its decadent menu. Travel to the New World and sample the Chihuahua. Made with Olmeca Altos Tequila, Criollo wine, La Venenosa Raicilla and Coca leaf tincture, this drink is dry and vegetal with sherry notes and a subtle chilli finish.
Gigi’s
A venue where hot new music meets beautiful food and drink, Gigi’s Hoxton is one of our favourite places to enjoy a cocktail. The Frida comprises Patron Silver tequila, Tia Maria raspberry and blackberries muddled with fresh lemon juice and lemon zest.
Hacha
Dalston’s hottest new arrival, Hacha Bar is dedicated to everything agave, serving only tequila and mezcal. With a selection of 25 different tequila and mezcal bottles, which changes every few weeks, this really is the place to be for National Tequila Day. Try their White Negroni made with Don Julio 70 Añejo, bitters, Aecorn dry vermouth and Cocchi Americano. This twist on the famed Italian cocktail puts Mexico in the spotlight.
Homeboy
People go for the cocktails and stay for the craic at this rowdy Irish bar in Islington. Taking a relaxed and fun approach to cocktails for National Tequila Day, Homeboy has put a twist on the classic Paloma with the addition of Champagne. Don’t leave without trying one of the amazing crisp sandwiches.
W London
What better way to celebrate the Mexican festivities than with a tequila-based cocktail from W London’s new spring cocktail menu. Putting a zesty twist on the classic drink, the menu sees two tequila cocktails both featuring chilli and lime.
